Acne Studios Resort 2017 Collection
When Swedish Acne Studios is on the air, nothing garden-variety is expected. This multidisciplinary luxury fashion house can either be heartily loved or completely ignored, with its great accent on supreme tailoring and precise geometrical shapes rather than on embellishments, more often offering baggy shapes than body hugging silhouettes, and of course, never forgetting its original material denim. No matter what category you fall under, the Acne Studios resort 2017 collection is worth your whole attention and a round of applause.
The fashion house’s cofounder and creative director Jonny Johansson has not merely dreamt up a collection worth rocking during your cruise travels, but has rather focused on his recently adopted surfer lifestyle since buying a house in the Stockholm archipelago. Riding on the frantically moving ocean waves has become the designer’s new obsession and the new theme of the Acne Studios cruise 2017 collection. “I’m not a thrill seeker — it’s more like soul surfing,” the creative director said backstage about his inspiration.
That’s why contrary to all expectations, Jonny Johansson’s surfer-lifestyle-inspired collection brought no kind of board shorts, rash guards, neoprene vests or spring suits that all surfers pick for comfortable surfing. The whole collection was infused with tie-dye, watercolor effect prints as if a huge ocean wave had passed over them bleaching out the vibrant colors and making some very pretty artistic canvases.
Whether we look at that effortless calf-length dress with a purple-blue-green color game or at the utilitarian denim suit with some cloudy surface or else at those somehow deconstructed long puffer vests with psychedelic ink blot motifs, they are equally soothing our eyes.
But as per Johnny Johansson more is more, which is why bleached out watercolor prints kept on with their invasion appearing also on freaky crinoline skirts with asymmetrical hemlines, on knitted blouses at times so long as to cover half of the skirt, while on those tie-dye sock sneakers or Swedish clogs this lovely technique looked even more mind-blowing.
Some of the outfits truly threw us into some confusion in terms of being too oversized and unshapely, like those black or white pantsuits consisting of a blazer with many layers underneath and a pair of flaring pants going more and more bell-shaped. In contrast to them, that purple knitted dress with a black square on the bib, which parenthetically became our favorite one in the collection, was elegantly hugging the model’s body, while the white arm-length gloves and the floral choker just added some extra charm and pizzazz to the look.
Actually, such leather gloves in black, white or burgundy red shades were appearing throughout the whole Acne Studios resort 2017 collection to make a hint to darkfin power gloves applied in surfing, but with more power and security. However, when the black ones came matched with that all-black oversized maxi dress with buckles at the waist, the sporty mood just sank into oblivion giving way to gothic gloom and melancholy.
