The Highest Paid Supermodels of 2016 According to Forbes
Being obsessed with Forbes’ charts is something I deal with yearly, and I could scarcely keep a firm grip on my emotions when the chart of the highest paid supermodels of 2016 was finally revealed on Forbes a few hours ago. This specific chart is interesting indeed not only due to fashion-related reasons, but also because it is quite revealing for what concerns marketing, social media and the so-called ‘influencer phenomenon’ we have been talking about for a while now.
Though iconic supermodels such Gisele Bündchen, Adriana Lima and Karlie Kloss unsurprisingly made it to the list, most of the highest paid models of 2016 have one thing in common – millions and millions of followers on their social media accounts, particularly on Instagram.
Sure, both Bündchen and Kloss are very active on Snapchat, Instagram and Twitter too, but their success on such social media is the result of their longtime career, while most of the highest paid supermodels of 2016 we are about to see on this list, sort of began (or improved) their career thanks to their enthusiastic social media followers.
Although they surely would hit it big anyways, such a phenomenon is something Forbes (un)directly enhances and analyzes throughout its article regarding the world’s highest paid supermodels of 2016 (the word ‘insta-famous’ comes a few times within its paragraphs), and we also find it extremely interesting.
The list, however, also reveals a sad phenomenon we should all start talking about, and that’s the fashion’s industry worrying lack of diversity. Regarding this, Natalie Robehmed, a staff writer at Forbes, told the Independent: “The majority of the list is overwhelmingly white, which reflects the lack of diversity in campaigns.”
Then again, Forbes’s list of the highest paid supermodel of 2016 will make us giddy, and for various reasons! Here is the top 10 chart:
#1. Gisele Bündchen
The Brazilian supermodel, now 36, has topped the list for 14 years in a row now, earning around $30,500,000 this year. Speaking of a successful career!
#2. Adriana Lima
One of Bündchen’s dearest colleagues and fashion veterans, Lima earned $10.5 million in 2016.
#3. Kendall Jenner and Karlie Kloss
Two models got awarded with Forbes’ bronze medal this time around, namely Kendall Jenner and coder Karlie Kloss. The beauties earned $10 million in 2016.
#4. Gigi Hadid and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley
#5. Cara Delevingne
It has been an intense year for Suicide Squad’s Cara Delevingne, who has been vocal about her depression and contrasting feelings towards the fashion industry since the beginning of the year. As for her overall earnings, she waves 2016 goodbye with $8.5 million earned.
#6. Candice Swanepoel and Liu Wen
(Very) soon-to-be mom Candice Swanepoel and Chinese beauty Liu Wen both earned $7 million this year.
#7. Miranda Kerr
According to Forbes, Kora Organics’ founder earned $6 million in 2016.
#8. Natalia Vodianova and Lara Stone
