Cannes Film Festival 2016 Opening: Best Dressed Celebrities
One of the most prestigious events on the international film calendar, Cannes Film Festival 2016 is in full swing now, having united the top names in the movie, music and fashion industries in the French Riviera, who keep on astounding us with their gorgeous red carpet appearances day in, day out. Kicked off on May 11 and set to last until May 12, the 69th annual Cannes Film Festival opened with the premiere of Woody Allen’s Cafe Society, marking the third time the world-famous American filmmaker, playwright and actor has opened the festival. Of course, we were ogling Blake Lively and Kristen Stewart yesterday night, who are the stars of the film alongside Jesse Eisenberg, but the red carpet also featured Julianne Moore, Jessica Chastain and A-list supermodels, like Doutzen Kroes and Bella Hadid, who were all smiles looking radiant and drop-dead gorgeous in fabulous designer creations. Below, we present the best dressed celebrities at the Cannes Film Festival 2016 opening ceremony, from the always-impeccable Blake Lively to our favorite fashion designer Victoria Beckham!
1. Blake Lively’s Cannes 2016 Appearances
Of course, Blake Lively, who’s expecting her second child with husband Ryan Reynolds, was in the spotlight at the opening of the Cannes Film Festival 2016 yesterday, appearing in an elegant red jumpsuits with a wrap skirt and spaghetti straps designed by Juan Carlos Obando. She was wearing her signature smile and an effortless tousled ponytail to spice up the look that was so perfect for the French Riviera.
Later for the opening night, she changed into a glorious dusty pink Atelier Versace gown with mesh inserts flashing some skin and sparkling sequins. Metallic silver sandals, her iconic mane styled in voluminous waves and a natural makeup look with pink lips polished her look to perfection.
Blake couldn’t miss the opening dinner of the festival either, where she appeared in a black feathered skirt and elegant coat from Salvatore Ferragamo, spiced up with a pair of peep-toe sequined pumps.
2. Kristen Stewart’s Love for Chanel
Naturally as expected, Kristen Stewart opted for Chanel for her first appearances at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, wearing a simple white cropped shirt and a below-the-knee Chanel tweed skirt styled with printed pumps to attend the Cafe Society Photocall, and a sheer black short and a Fifties-inspired printed midi skirt duo from the brand’s newly unveiled Cuba collection at the film’s premiere. For both her looks, she used an iconic red lipstick in matte texture, while her short platinum blonde bob was kept in natural soft waves.
3. Kirsten Dunst In Dior and Gucci
We’re absolutely in love with Kirsten Dunst’s Dior Haute Couture yellow dress styled with a metallic gold belt cinched at the waist she donned at the Jury Photocall, which is so French and so perfect for the French Riviera. She kept it minimal accessorizing her look with a pair of golden wedge sandals, red lips and a side-parted wavy bob. Her red carpet look was equally romantic and feminine, featuring a flower-embellished dusty pink Gucci gown that she styled with pointy-toe pumps, natural makeup and a loose low updo.
4. Bianca Balti in Alberta Ferretti
Supermodel Bianca Balti was the belle of the ball, hitting the red carpet in an ethereal Alberta Ferretti gown in a powdery blue shade with the body trimmed with lace details and the lightweight tiered tulle skirt featuring a long tail. She embellished her princess-worthy look with striking Chopard jewels, a center-parted half up and half down hairstyle and minimal makeup accentuating her divine features.
5. Jessica Chastain in Armani Privé
Jessica Chastain certainly knows what colors to choose to flatter her iconic auburn hair and to bring out the best in her features. She wore a strapless yellow gown from Armani Privé with a sweetheart neckline, a wrapped front and a tulle tail to attend the premiere of the film yesterday night. A sparkling necklace completed her look along with her tousled side-parted long bob and the natural makeup with the stress placed on the subtle smokey eyes.
6. Bella Hadid in Roberto Cavalli
A-list supermodels are a common sight at the biggest events in the movie industry, and we were so pleased to see Bella adorn the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival 2016 opening ceremony. She wore a sensual nude Roberto Cavalli dress with lace, sequin and transparency embellishments, as well as a bold cut-out design on the cleavage. Strappy heeled sandals, a chic choker, her signature sleek high ponytail and minimal makeup took Bella’s ethereal look to new heights.
7. Julianne Moore in Givenchy Couture
Julianne Moore is one of our favorite actresses, who always surprises us with her impeccable, always-elegant red-carpet looks. Her Cannes 2016 appearance was equally fabulous, bringing in a custom black Givenchy Couture dress with sheer inserts and bold sequined snake embellishments, which she styled with emerald green Chopard jewels, platform sandals and a sleek center-parted hairstyle.
8. Lily Donaldson in Saint Laurent
Minimalist black was the choice of model Lily Donaldson, who hit the red carpet donning a Saint Laurent gown with spaghetti straps and a low-cut neckline. A beautiful choker and golden Atelier Swarovski jewels accessorized her look, while her beauty choice stopped on an effortless braid, bold burgundy lips and a flawless complexion.
9. Doutzen Kroes in Brandon Maxwell
Ex Victoria’s Secret Angel Doutzen Kroes proved once again that less is more wearing a dramatic black Brandon Maxwell dress with a velvet body with bold cut-outs and a high center slit. Pointy-toe heels, a sleek black mani, au naturel makeup and a half-up, half-down hairstyle completed her look, making her one of the best dressed celebs at the Cannes 2016.
10. Naomi Watts in Armani Privé
Perfect as usual, Naomi Watts never disappoints with her personal style and red-carpet choices. To attend the opening ceremony of the Cannes 2016, she wore a rhinestone-embellished lilac dress from Armani Privé with a strapless design that she styled with a precious necklace. Her blonde long bob was styled in a side-parted wavy ‘do, while her soft makeup was perfectly in tune with her ethereal look.
11. Victoria Beckham in Her Own Design
Victoria Beckham decided to break all the stereotypes, ditching the classic gowns and opting for an elegant black strapless jumpsuit with white trimmings on the sweetheart neckline that she herself designed. Pointy-toe pumps, a precious Chopard bracelet and a loose chignon added the right touch of grace and sophistication to her red-carpet look.
12. Anna Kendrick in Stella McCartney
Another star chose yellow to shine like the sun on the red carpet at the Cannes 2016 opening ceremony. Anna Kendrick’s Stella McCartney gown in a warm yellow color looked both minimalist and chic, coming accompanied by a sparkling necklace with a precious pendant. Her side-swept locks and soft makeup added the final finishing touches to her goddess look.
