See The First River Island Plus Size Collection for Spring 2016
When news that fast-fashion retailer River Island was about to officially open its doors to plus size fashion hit the headlines, we all were instantly thrilled. Set to debut in early March, the very first River Island plus size collection is finally here, and it’s been launched just in time for spring 2016. Available in bricks-and-mortar stores as well as online at Riverisland.com, River Island Plus has offerings in sizes 18 to 24, and comprises everything from party dresses to workwear, including basics and outerwear. As for the prices, the 75-piece collection is pretty affordable too, with the lowest price being ¬¨¬®¬¨¬£6 for a tank top, and the highest being ¬¨¬®¬¨¬£80 for a trench coat (so it’s circa $16 and $130 USD).
Candice Huffine, also known as the first plus-size model to appear in a Pirelli calendar, was asked to front the campaign, and the results are nothing but stunning. Back in December Huffine revealed to be enthusiastic about the collection, as it appeared clear River Island’s designers “have thought about a curvy woman’s body and designed accordingly, while giving her exactly what can be found on the high street at any other size. A plus-size collection doesn’t need to be made totally different, it just needs to be made to fit.”
What makes the collection even more stunning, in fact, is that most of its pieces are just an extension of the already existing garments in smaller sizes, meaning that the River Island Plus line-up is all-round inclusive indeed. And now that the full line-up has been finally unveiled, it will be up to us to figure out whether the proposals meet River Island’s much anticipated high standards or not.
Overall, we could fairly state the collection is filled with most of spring’s ‚Äö√†√∂¬¨‚à´ber-stylish trends (such as the never boring button-front skirt), while colors, as well as prints, literally speak to the season indeed. As for the skirts, besides the aforementioned button-front skirt in denim and with golden buttons, the collection mostly features wrapped pencil skirts, the high waists and midi lengths of which will help elongate any figure. Three-quarter-sleeved t-shirts with Sabrina necklines and striped patterns are basically meant to be paired with such skirts, to the pleasure of those who are helplessly in love with the pin-up style.
As for those who enjoy Seventies-inspired outfits more, RI Plus is filled with vintage print shirt dresses, chunky sandals and lace-up blouses with plunging V-necklines, coming in functional colors that are totally meant to be matched with each other. Aside from denim, the line-up features a variety of suede-looking beiges, dark browns, bold blues and multicolored geometric patterns, which will surely refresh any wardrobe. Fringe embellishments alternate knitwear, while the shirts, Kimono frocks, peplum blouses, tapered pants and lace embroidered dresses will treat us to any stylish night out with friends. To top it all off, statement accessories complete each outfit, adding a fancy glamorous touch to the entire collection.
