Yeezy Season 2: Kanye West’s Spring/Summer 2016 Collection
From rapper to fashion designer ” this was the pathway passed by one of the most discussed figures in America, Kayne West. With collaborative products like Nike Air Yeezy Sneakers and Adidas Yeezy Boost under his belt, the rapper-designer is confidently making his way down the New York Fashion Week with his designer clothes and boots two years in a row. Whether you like his shabby and rugged style or not, one thing is sure ” West knows how to make a dizzy show though with the helping hand of performance artist Vanessa Beecroft. With New York Fashion Week drawing to its end, Kanye’s Yeezy spring 2016 runway show was really impressive and worth for the finish, albeit rather for the performance than the clothing designs. The front row was really star-studded, including Kim, of course, and their daughter North sitting on the mother’s laps with a lollipop in her mouth, as well as Khloe, Kourtney, Kendall Jenner, Ricardo Tisci, Drake, Lord and Anna Wintour. In case it interests you, Kylie Jenner was also present at the show but as a model this time.
Beecroft, famous for her performance art involving nude female models, is definitely the best choice by West to perform his Yeezy Season 2, which is in many aspects like Yeezy Season 1 ” the same military-inspired atmosphere, the same leggings, sweatshirts, parkas, anoraks and boots and the palette still remaining nude composed of beige, khaki, sand, taupe and cadet grey. Although West has designed the clothes keeping in his mind some military concepts, the collection unwittingly takes us somewhere to the slums, where people wear anything that comes within reach, without much caring about their tidiness. As for the show, it was literally military with drill sergeants calling out formations. With each command sounding four models were appearing, forming a row that was gradually moving from light to dark; the first models being platinum-haired and fair-skinned and accordingly wearing nude apparel were being followed by models with a darker skin color and accordingly darker clothes. This was definitely a well-thought strategy by West in terms of emphasizing the collection’s color palette and maybe throwing a retrospective look to the racial discrimination.
Actually some of the pieces in the Yeezy spring/summer 2016 collection like nude leggings, bras or some oversized sweatpants are rather difficult to imagine wearing in the streets, but the cool boots, hoodies and anoraks can definitely become the integral part of our wardrobes especially for those, who have long adopted the street style.
The fact that West is trying his hand at fashion does not mean that he has forgotten his roots. Just to remind everybody of his rapper spirit and to fill the music world with a new treasure, Kanye used the runway as a stage to premier the song “I feel it’. At the finale of the show, he appeared and presented his new composition straight among the models standing like stones except for one male model that began smoking, which is still unknown to have been a part of the performance or the model’s irresistible desire.
