3.1 Phillip Lim Fall/Winter 2015-2016 Collection – New York Fashion Week
The 3.1 Phillip Lim fall/winter 2015-2016 collection marks the 10th anniversary for the 3.1 Phillip Lim brand, which means that this season he’s got only the best to offer, having taken stock of what exactly defines the label and makes it appealing to the mass pubic. This time around he used up sportswear staples, menswear-inspired tailoring that had a total feminine touch to them while still keeping to their more comfortable styling; it has a rather instinctive streetwise attitude surrounding it and making it really stand out among the rest. There is a bit on unrefined edges and can actually be described, as Phillip Lim himself has mentioned, as haphazard.
There are many fashion designers in America of Chinese descent and we are happy to know that Phillip Lim is one of these incredibly creative minds catering to the fashion needs of women everywhere. The entrepreneurial mind combined with the American market and the designer’s background lending a different perspective on creativity when it comes to designing the best in women’s wear. The 41-year-old artist also has surpassed $60 million in yearly sales and just keeps on growing with his 3.1 Phillip Lim label. According to Nicole Phelps of Vogue, this is one man with a vision that allows for the combination of the casual and the dressy in a seamless collection. Lim certainly seems to know how fashionable women love to dress.
There is something so completely alluring about the 45 pieces of the collection that it remains a rather hard feat to pull our eyes away from it. From the bold, punky lips that really countered the more natural beauty visions that had been the trademark of the New York Fashion Week runway shows until now to the more grunge designs of the dresses, there was a certain rebelliousness seen in the whole of the show. It was as if Lim was breaking out of his shell and showing off to the world the reason why his designs are so loved by the most stylish of fashionistas out there. Short hems and long ones, tighter straight pants and looser trousers, flimsy fabrics and stiff leather; this is one collection that has it all. The major focus appeared to be on the black and grey coloring with white accenting the outfits here and there, while the last few pieces also included lovely tiger prints with sequins among the thin, finely drawn stripes on a midi skirt that is simply to die for.
We see multiple layers appearing across the 3.1 Phillip Lim fall 2015 rtw collection, with some jackets covered over with secondary coats. Despite the fact that the deep V plunging necklines have been rocking so many of the collections across the week, it appears that Lim preferred to stick to the high neckline but did think to incorporate slits, even if they are more utilitarian and not quite as revealing as some designers have made them be. We do see lots of checked patterning and a good amount of fur used on the pieces, another trend that has taken the runway by storm, particularly to fight off the next year’s chilly weathers.
Lim focuses on layers, not just in his fabrics and clothing ensembles, but in the hair styling as well, where no matter how long or short the hair may be (generally centered around the trending medium length cut), there are pieces flying about at different levels of length. It’s a gorgeous line-up and definitely a great choice of design for the 10th anniversary of the brand’s birth.
